Tunneling at the Sullivan Granite Company |
|
The fine quality granite was located 150 ft below the surface. Rather than remove the overburden, the dirt and poor quality stone, Sullivan chose to follow the vein of granite . The result was a quarry with a deep undercut or tunnel. This saved a significant expense. An unanticipated benefit was that quarrying could continue through the winter.
